Welcome to the STAMINA project newsletter, a guide to our latest work and news.

STAMINA is a H2020 project (No. 883441) developing a smart support platform that will assist pandemic crisis management practitioners at a regional, national and international level. The STAMINA toolset will be accompanied by a set of guidelines on effective implementation of risk communication principles and best practices in cross-organisational preparedness and response plans.

The STAMINA consortium unites a diverse range of experts and organisations, including decision makers, policymakers, national planners, public authorities, health care workers, regional emergency management agencies, first responders, NGOs, social scientists, (bio)informaticians, research organisations and IT experts.

STAMINA's 1st International Summit for Pandemic Management

Reflections on STAMINA’s 1st International Summit on Pandemic Management

On 18 May 2022, the STAMINA project partners and stakeholders came together in-person for the first time since the start of the project during the 1st International Summit on Pandemic Management in València (Spain), organised and hosted by the València Local Police.

This Summit was a forum for discussion and debate for high-level experts to present lessons learnt from the ongoing pandemic to share and discuss ways to apply these learning to be better prepared for and manage future health crises.

Representatives from the project consortium shared the STAMINA Project’s progress and demonstrated the usefulness of the STAMINA tools to help end-users better manage pandemics and ways to achieve a more coordinated effort between countries in the EU and beyond.

The utility of STAMINA tools for more efficient patient care during pandemics

The STAMINA Project partner, Community Healthcare Center dr. Adolf Drolc Maribor (HCM) from Slovenia, contributes to the project from the position of an end-user, playing a crucial role as a demonstrator of trial scenarios. HCM tests and demonstrates intelligent decision support for pandemic prediction and management developed by the STAMINA consortium.

Through the EU Horizon 2020-funded STAMINA Project tools, partners like HCM have seen improvement and increased their capacity to provide quality patient care with ease. The project continues to strive to make these tools accessible and available to improve pandemic management in the near future.

Get the most out of your data with visual analytics

In a pandemic crisis, first responders and policy makers need to gain insight from the data and make evidence-based decisions. But how can we make sense out of our data? And how can this be communicated to a wide range of audiences? Visual analytics comes to our rescue. But what is visual analytics? And how can we achieve it?

In STAMINA, we develop a range of solutions to support preparedness and response to a pandemic crisis. Our aim is to equip decision makers with the appropriate tools to deal with complex decisions at operational, tactical and strategic level. An essential element in this effort is the ability to manage data and gain insight, make credible predictions, have a comprehensive situation awareness and take the public opinion into account. Additionally, all this should be communicated among a variety of teams and the public.

Towards this goal, we not only provide data visual analytics but also go a step further and provide predictive visual analytics as well as situation awareness visual analytics.

Detecting emerging diseases

The COVID-19 pandemic has proven the importance of detecting and screening emerging diseases early on. The pandemic highlighted how easily healthcare systems can be pushed to their limits and revealed the weaknesses behind healthcare systems including financial capacities and the availability of personnel and infrastructures.

After almost two years of grappling with the global pandemic and facing the heavy toll of 5.8 million deaths, some countries found ways for people to lead regular lives amidst the pandemic. In ensuring greater preparedness in managing future pandemics, the experience with COVID-19 provides us with useful lessons for the future.
